The LANC has chosen this year to support the Celia Cross Greyhound Trust. For over 40 years this charity has been re-homing and caring for retired, abandoned or mistreated greyhounds at Sun Valley Kennels, Shere Road, West Clandon, Guildford, Surrey GU4 8SH. Tel: 01483 222832; www.celiacross.org.uk.

Naturally, extensive funding is required to be able to maintain the kennels, including for veterinary fees, food and many other costs. Money to be able to do this comes from a wide range of fundraising efforts and occasional legacies and more funds are always urgently needed.

Greyhounds make wonderful pets. They are adaptable, of equable temperament, very affectionate, clean and quiet in the house and excellent in the car. For all their streamlining and long legs, they are lounge lizards at heart and do not need miles of exercise.

Volunteers are always wanted to help at the kennels, to join the fund raising team, walk the dogs or offer many other supports to enable the Trust to continue to care for these lovely creatures. Maybe you are looking for a new interest or hobby, have some spare time to offer/know someone who does have or simply love dogs? Perhaps you could give a greyhound a home or would just like to learn more about the Trust’s work and in some way help to join the Learning Assessment and Neurocare Centre to support the wonderful work of this charity. The team at the kennels would be delighted if you gave them a call or contact Pauline Latham, Centre Manager, at the Learning Assessment Centre, who will be pleased to provide further information.

A charity street collection will be held in Horsham town centre to support the work  of the Celia Cross Greyhound Trust on Saturday, 24th September, where some of the greyhounds who are looking for homes will be present and information will be provided, with some items for sale.
